Levee Safety Program

In the Levee Safety Program, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers works with local sponsors to conduct inspections and risk assessments. These are used to identify and describe flood risks associated with the levee system, as well as increase flood risk awareness.

The Detroit District inspects 11 levee systems and six flood risk reduction channel projects on a regular basis hand in hand with the local communities.  Within these systems, there are over 13 miles of levees and floodwall structures reducing the flood risk for over 12,000 people and residential and commercial properties valued at approximately 1.2 Billion dollars.

USACE also maintains the National Levee Database as the resource for levee information for all levees nationwide. This user friendly geodatabase is available to the public at the National Levee Database link to the left.  For more information on the USACE Levee Safety Program, please visit the Headquarters Levee Safety Program link to the left.
