The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, announces that Lakes Michigan, Huron, St. Clair and Erie set new monthly mean water level records for April 2020, which were previously set in 1985 or 1986. All of the lakes are either in their period of seasonal rise or are reaching their peak, as we continue into the late spring and summer.

Many guests visited the Soo Locks during the Soo Locks Engineers Day June 27, always the last Friday in June, where the gates are open and the public is allowed to view the ships up-close. See photos by visiting us on Facebook:
The locks underwent critical repairs and maintenance during the winter shutdown. Crews have battled the elements to put the Poe Lock back into operation at the scheduled time. The locks and Soo Locks crew will be available for service despite extremely heavy ice on the St. Marys River that has delayed the arrival of the first Cargo Vessel.

Note: photos of the crews during winter work are available on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Detroit-District-US-Army-Corps-of-Engineers/144354390916
