Kawkawlin River, MI

Kawkawlin River is located on the south shore of the Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron, 16 miles north of Saginaw, MI.  Authorization: Section 13 of the 1946 Flood Control Act (FCA) - (Section A); and authority assigned to the Chief of Engineers in section 205 of the 1948 Flood Control Act – (Section B); As amended by Section 837, WRDA 1986.  This project is a Flood Control, Clearing and Snagging project. Section A consists of a 100 feet wide and 5 feet below low water datum.  Section B consists of an excavated channel enlargement and elimination of bridge constrictions.  The channel is approximately two miles long with a 100 foot bottom width, 5.75 feet below low water datum. The USACE authority allows for cost shared dredging of Section B of the project only. Section A is the responsibility of the local sponsor. Both sections require maintenance dredging to ensure the project operates as designed.
