Regional Coastal Mapping
Welcome
The Regional Coastal Mapping Program and is managed by the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise (JABLTCX). The airborne system will collect bathymetry, topography, digital orthophotography, and hyperspectral imagery. These data sets can be a major building block for future regional GIS databases.

Data collection is expected to start in May 2006 and continue through to the fall. Additional data will be collected over the same timeframe in 2007. It is hoped that data will be collected for much of the Great Lakes shoreline in these two years. These data sets will be invaluable resources for coastal zone managers making sediment management decisions, environmental assessments, shoreline evaluations, as well as other determinations.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosted a conference call on Thursday, March 2, 2006 to discuss the coastal mapping to occur in the Great Lakes region in 2006 and 2007.
