There are a range of coastal investigations being carried out as part of the LMPDS. Many of these follow directly from work undertaken and recommendations made during the 1986-1993 IJC Great Lakes Water Level Reference Study. Click on the links below to learn more about each component.

• Recession Rate Updates, Analysis and Generation of New Data

• Revision of the Great Lakes Shoreline Classification Scheme

• Collection of Coastal Processes Field Data
  This task is basically complete. Ongoing sporadic data collection continues, as required for the erosion model.
• Development of a Flood and Erosion Prediction System (FEPS)
  Development of the FEPS model It is now being applied on a county-by-county basis to estimate damages.
• Analysis of Lakewide Bluff Stability Factors
  This task is ongoing.
• Analysis of Structural Shore Protection Impacts
  Various components of this task have been completed.
• Analysis of Lakewide Sediment Budgets
  This task is ongoing. Some work has been done in the prototype counties.
• Estimation of Deepwater Wave Climate for Water Level Scenarios
  This task is ongoing. Some work has been done in the prototype counties.
• Determine Nearshore Waves and Surge Characteristics For Each Scenario
  This task was completed in 1998.
• Development of a Wave Runup Prediction System
  This task was completed in 1999.
• Estimate Recession Rates for Each Water Level Scenario
  This task is ongoing. Some work has been done in the prototype counties.
