Bluff Erosion

Wave action and ground water are the major contributors to bluff erosion. Waves and Ground water will destabilize a bluff face causing bluff failures. Waves will erode and carry away the material at the toe of the bluff and steepen the bluff. When the bluff reaches a certain angle, the slope becomes unstable and fails and the erosion process continues. Over a 30-year period, the bluff shown in the photos below have receded approximately 120 feet.
