Regional Issue 4: Adverse Effects to Beaches East of Michigan City

Another issue is adverse effects on nearshore processes and adjacent shoreline due to implementation of a bypassing program. It was pointed out a number of times during regional workshops that if too much sediment is by-passed around the harbor then the present equilibrium of the beaches east of the harbor (figure 1) could potentially see negative impacts (e.g. erosion, property loss).
