Environmental Assesment, Menomonee River Environmental Restoration, City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin

Posted: 3/25/2015

Expiration date:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Detroit District, has updated the Environmental Assesment (EA), Menomonee River, Environmental Restoration, City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, which was public noticed on June 5, 2014. A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the project was signed on July 11, 2014.

The change to the EA pertains to using disposal sites that are located closer to the project area. The newly proposed disposal sites are Lakefield Sand and Gravel, located at 7003 Good Hope Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and three sites owned by the
Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). The MMSD owned sites are located at 4601 West State Street, 4200 W. Monarch Place and North 441th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All three (3) MMSD sites have had the public meetings required
by state statute for the placement of excavated material from the Menomonee River.

Although not anticipated, regulated waste materials encountered during project implementation would be trucked to the Advanced Disposal Emerald Park Landfill in Muskego, Wisconsin.

Based on the locations and nature of these updated disposal sites, and our review thereof, we have determined that there is no change in the impacts as assessed in the EA other than the minor decrease in truck emissions and noise due to the shorter
hauling distances. Therefore, we do not plan to update the July 2014 FONSI.

Any comments you may have concerning the change in the disposal of excavated
materials removed from the project site should be directed to Charles Uhlarik, Chief, Environmental Analysis Branch, at Detroit
District, US Army Corps of Engineers, 477 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48226.
