The Detroit District leadership participated in the Federal Small Business Conference this year and received U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards while there for the great work the district does with the small business community.
The Detroit District won First Place for Top Hub Zone and Third Place for the Top Small Business awards in 2018, competing with districts all across the Corps.
“This award really isn’t about Michelle or I, but is a result of years of work by the whole team, including our partners in the local maritime industry,” said Lt. Col. Greg Turner, district engineer, for the Detroit District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
According to the conference information Website, The Small Business Conference, which took place November 20 – 22, was the premier event for federal agencies and businesses operating in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Facility Maintenance/Management Industry marketplace to come together to share information, discuss business needs and mission requirements, connect with potential partners and help support the nation’s small businesses and the government’s small business contracting goals.
Several districts and divisions from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers participated in the event and competed for the awards. The Detroit district won its awards for Top HubZone (First Place) for making HubZone selections 44.97 percent and 3rd Place for the Top Small Business by selecting small businesses 82.72percent of the time in 2018.
The Federal Small Business Conference creates the biggest and best event by connecting small businesses directly with federal government procurement decision makers, contracting officers, small business liaison officers, and leaders, according to the Federal Small Business event Website.
