  • Charlevoix channel dredging scheduled to conclude by May 15

    About 13,000 cubic yards of material is scheduled to be removed from the Charlevoix Harbor channel before May 15, as part of a maintenance dredging contract under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.  Great Lakes Dock and Materials, LLC., located in Muskegon, will perform the work for the Corps of Engineers for approximately $480,000 and place the dredged materials in open water in Lake Michigan. The state-approved open water is located about a mile and a half northwest of the harbor entrance. 
  • USACE, Chicago Harbor Lock Reopens for the 2024 Season After Winter Construction

    The Chicago Harbor Lock, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is open for vessel traffic as of April 15, marking the end of this phase of construction. The reinforced lock floor was completed last week and included replacing tile from the lock floor using reinforced concrete with micropiles along with dredging excess material. This was done by using dive teams and maintaining a 24/7 construction operation schedule.

  • USACE Buffalo District Hosts Public Information Session for NFSS

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District will host a public information session to provide project updates for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Niagara Falls Storage Site (NFSS) project, Lewiston, NY. This event will provide an opportunity to engage with the Corps of Engineers' Integrated Technical Office staff to gain a deeper understanding of the status of ongoing and future activities at the site. This meeting will be recorded, and a video will be posted to the project information website for anyone who cannot attend.
  • North Pier Repairs Kick Off More Than $7.5M in 2024 Army Corps Projects in Erie

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District and its contractor, Chicago-based Architectural Consulting Group, will begin construction on Erie Harbor’s north pier in mid-April, repairing approximately 1,800 feet of the damaged structure. The work is part of more than $7.5 million worth of activity in Erie by USACE in 2024, including dredging of the harbor’s federal navigation channel and continuation of the Presque Isle Beach Nourishment project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is soliciting bids from contractors for the Approach Wall and Decommissioning Contract as part of the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project in Chattanooga Tennessee.
  • Corps of Engineers Start Outer Harbor Dredging in Holland, Michigan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, will begin dredging the outer harbor in Holland, Michigan, this weekend to remove about 31,000 cubic yards of sediment from the federal navigation channel. The King Co., based in Holland, Michigan was awarded a $901,885 contract to hydraulically dredge Holland and Grand Haven this spring. The expected completion for both harbors is May 31.
